Official Flag of Ptica Park Ptica is the fourth largest island in the world, an international reserve depopulated by the devastating plague that originated from its shores, and preserved as an ecological research park.

Ptica: A biological and archeological legacy island

The island is 930,000 in size with a large mountain range running from the north-western corner along the north of the island to about two-thirds of its length. Preliminary map of Ptica Park The climate is warm-dry temperate, and sitting along the thirty-degree latitude rainfall is comparatively low. Studying the botanical and zoological wealth on the island has been the international community's highest priority, with the landscape relatively untouched for past three hundred years.

However, it is not just biology that draws scientists to the island, but archeology, too. In classical times, Ptica island was an important civilisation, the southern end of the great Eulos Sea civilisations, a sea filled with trading ships from Utania to Asterabad, Eulos to Ptica. And with trade came cultural exchange. Rimlan temples on Ptica are amongst the most pristine in the world. The native Pticans -- cousins, it is thought, of the Neferi in southern Ishrakan -- adopted many Rimlan customs, and people, but also exported their own.

The extinct Ptican people have left behind a wealth of ancient ruins, as well as, of course, their towns and villages of just before the plague and often these two overlap. It is a foundational principle of Ptica Park to regard the islands' villages and towns as grave sites, and therefore most of them have remained untouched for over three hundred years.

For this reason visiting the island is ILLEGAL, and trespassers to the island will be dealt with under the Ptica Protection Mandates and local Armatirion law. The Armatirion coast guard maintains a heavy presense around the island. Please understand that the Ptica Park administration takes extremely seriously this mandate, and use of deadly force has been authorised.

Armatirion scientists are strictly monitored whilst on the island, their activities are carefully pre-evaluated by several Ptica Park governing panels to ensure the sensitivity of the island is maintained. Even the walking routes scientists plan to take are carefully vetted to ensure that human remains are left undisturbed.

History of the Ptica National Park

Ptica was jointly governed by the Union of Guwimith and Dependencies and the Republic of Armatirion. Following talks between Guwimith and Armatirion, the official foundation of Ptica Park took place on the 22nd of October 297, making Ptica Park the first and largest natural reserve in the world. The whole island is demilitarised, the small scientific settlements are virtually non-polluting: all garbage is removed by ship, all sewerage carefully treated and recycled, and all transport to and from the island is by sail boats and solar powered electrogliders.

However, neighbours have regarded the depopulated island avariciously, seeking to exploit its natural resources, to trample upon its ecological wealth, and sweep aside its archeological heritage.

On the neighbouring islands a new nation arose only a short time after the foundation of Ptica. Neonesia tried to disturb the peaceful existance of Ptica as a Guwimith/Armatirion territory, to little awail. Claims of Neonesian settlements on Ptica was dismissed after extensive exploration of the island.

Even today, Neonesian imperialist conspiracy websites continue to propagate this myth of native human settlements on the island. They make wild claims regarding populated towns and roads populated by cars, forgetting that a substantial scientific community is on the island, and built roads to permit free movement around it.

Claims of flags spotted on the island are just the scientists' self-amusements, designing and flying their own flags to help pass the time. Likewise, satellite dishes on the island are simply for the scientists' entertainment, though by-laws see most removed quickly to protect the landscape. The only official flag of the island is the one shown at the top of this page.

As Lendian historians concluded, the Great Plague (which killed a vast percentage of the world's population) originated from Ptica. The Plague left a unique fauna and flora behind on the island, and this wildlife is what we preserve and protect.

Following the demise of Guwimith, Ptica was wholly taken into the Republic as a devoluted region.
